Profit Driven Medicine

E-mail Print PDF
Eduardo lives in America. While heath care reform dominates the national debate, not everyone in this wealthy country will be helped. In Kansas City, KS, there is a 14 year-old boy named Eduardo Loredo who could die any day.
Eduardo is being denied a heart transplant because he does not have health insurance (or enough money) to pay for a heart transplant and follow up care. Eduardo was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, and was hospitalized at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO beginning in July 2009. Eduardo was sent home from Children's Mercy Hospital on October 14, 2009 and told that he had the potential to live a few years or a few days.  Here is the rest of the story ... http://current.com/items/91598617_the-third-world-eduardo-is-about-to-die-for-lack-of-healthcare.htm

The American Anxiety

And as for the Medicaid expansion -- it is 'good' in that it is a desirable end, but it is 'evil' in that it perpetuates a two (or more)-tier system of medical care in which the richer folks get all the benefits of the system and the poorer folks get shunted to a pared down version of the system, which eventually is pared down further and further as the cost of sustaining the 'rich' system becomes unsustainable to more and more of the 'rich' -- in a more simple form, this is the very debate that both Canada and to a lesser extent Britain have engaged in for many years.

Buy A T-Shirt

E-mail Print PDF

This is from someone who wore the "Our National Health Plan: Don't Get Sick" T-shirt:

"I wore that t-shirt while flying to NC and during the day while wandering around Greensboro. I got soooo many comments. Maybe 15. How about sending a slip of paper with the t-shirts? The paper would have brief info about HR 676 and the http://www.1payer.net website cause everyone wanted to know where I got the t-shirt. Suggest that people copy the info and keep it in their pocket when wearing the t-shirt. Hand it out whenever anyone comments on the shirt."

Here is where you get the T-Shirt. Unfortunately, our vendor won't allow us to send something with the T-Shirt, but you can print out this website address http://www.1payer.net/Talking-Points/ and carry it with you.  Then you will have an effective means of communicating.  Or just tell people to google the words "one payer", the words "health justice" or the phrase "1payer" -- we pop up first on the googlist.
