The American Anxiety

And as for the Medicaid expansion -- it is 'good' in that it is a desirable end, but it is 'evil' in that it perpetuates a two (or more)-tier system of medical care in which the richer folks get all the benefits of the system and the poorer folks get shunted to a pared down version of the system, which eventually is pared down further and further as the cost of sustaining the 'rich' system becomes unsustainable to more and more of the 'rich' -- in a more simple form, this is the very debate that both Canada and to a lesser extent Britain have engaged in for many years.

What Now?

The ambiguity and indecisiveness of progressives, liberals, Democrats, or whatever you want to call those who have longed for single payer and worked for Obama -- it has become acutely disturbing since Sunday, when Harry Reid announced the deal for a 60 vote Senate health bill. Few people I correspond with or listen to seem to have a clear idea of whether to advocate for defeat of health legislation, whether to grudgingly support passage of any kind of health legislation in hopes of betterment, or whether to wait and see what the final conference committee bill will look like and then decide.  So in the spirit of Christmas sharing, here is an analytical framework you can apply:
